Breakthrough Supported Employment proudly hosted its first Local Employer Engagement Event, bringing together local employers, recruiters, and community leaders to highlight the importance of inclusive employment practices and the support available for individuals with autism and/or learning disabilities.
The event served as a powerful platform to share knowledge, experiences, and strategies that promote truly inclusive workplaces — where individuals of all abilities can thrive, contribute, and feel valued.
Attendees took part in engaging discussions and learning sessions focused on:
The specialist employment support provided to individuals and employers.
How businesses can create supportive environments for neurodiverse employees.
Insights into the Disability Confident Scheme, which helps employers recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions.
One of the event’s most memorable highlights was the interactive icebreaker, “Getting to Know You” Bingo, which gave participants just 90 seconds to connect, share stories, and find common ground. This lively session set a positive and collaborative tone for the day, encouraging genuine connections among professionals passionate about inclusivity.
The event also marked the official unveiling of Breakthrough’s new promotional video and employer tips leaflet, designed to help organisations better understand and support employees with autism and/or learning disabilities.
The programme featured an outstanding lineup of speakers who shared expert insights and lived experiences, shedding light on both the challenges and opportunities within inclusive employment:
Olga Zilberberg, Founder, The Missing Link
Topic: The Power of Diverse Minds: Embracing Neurodiversity in the Workplace
Nicola Martin, Talkback (via Teams)

The event also featured the Patchwork Hope Stall, showcasing creative work produced by individuals supported through Breakthrough’s programmes. This exhibit celebrated how art and collaboration can help build confidence, social skills, and a sense of belonging.
